I can see them on my N95 all over Tallaght, but they seem to be not fully functional (no reply from gateway).

Don't expect these to be free for long, I'd bet. This is Eircom we are talking about.

Just got a handheld device with WiFi and was curious to see what would work around Stephens Green...stood next to the Eircom Internet stations inside and could pick up a free signal- not sure if it was Eircoms signal I was picking up though and Internet Explorer wasn't able to browse anything so a bit useless! Stood outside next to the Eircom payphones then and all I got was Connecting......Connecting.....Connecting....after a few mins I just had to leave it.

fair cop, you've got us there, title should probably read "Top 5 windows programs...".

I wouldnt agree entirely with your list, however:

* I find antivirus programs arent as necessary as people propose, if you take a much more strict stance on how you install software that you download - ie. never click a link in emails, ever! though if I was to install one, avg would deffinitely be it.

* Windows defender does absolutely nothing to my mind, nothing like spybot search and destroy or adaware

* VLC media player, absolutely class program, no objection there

* Winrar, if you replace this with 7zip, a opensource and free alternative then we're in agreement

Your other suggestions I wont comment on as, like you mentioned this post was for windows programs/computers.

thanks for the comment!

Thank you. We got a lot of flak for not asking hard hitting questions but our intention was not to draw blood. We wanted to ask both sides hard questions and still give them a chance to remain with a human face at the end of it.

Our questions were limited simply by the fact that since we could not get an interview with any anonymous members before the protest and as such didnt have a chance to ask them equally invasive questions as what we would have liked. We were trying to get his views on a lot of things and allow him to remain human and by not being able to ask questions of both sides we did not want to appear biased by asking questions above and beyond what we did.

We had intended to interview several people the day of the protest but there was a lot of discussion going on at all times and interviews did not seem appropriate. We will be doing our best to get in contact with both sides and do a follow up at some point in the near future.

I don't think it's designed for the hip and trendy laptop-toting types.

It's designed for people with iPhones, iPod touchs, Nokia 770s, Nokia N800/N810s, Noka e65s, Palm and WinMo devices with WiFi and those obscure folk who think tricking out a Newton with WiFi is kewl. Maybe even Nintendo DS and those portable playstation things.

Connect, grab some important data, view an ad maybe and get going. It'd be more interesting to know if ports are open (can I send email on port 25? Can I use Google Maps? Can I ssh to my server and restart the mongrel instances? Can I download the latest Rihanna track? What? She's hot. Sue me.) or whether they're keeping premium material for paying customers.

Cheers for the heads up. That would have been really useful when I was down for the Rollins gig last month and got lost. EDGE data in the Republic is not cheap!
